The Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) is a set of guidelines put in place to ensure that members, merchants and service providers that store, process or transmit cardholder data are following best practices in order to reduce credit and debit card fraud and security breaches. These standards were established by the major credit card brands (Visa®, MasterCard®, American Express®, Discover® and Japan Card®) to demonstrate compliance with the PCI DSS. Merchants are required to submit an attestation of compliance annually.
